Job Summary Brief

Responsible for the design, planning, and survivability of DataNet’s network. 

Job Responsibilities (Included but not limited to)

• Evaluate network utilization and make recommendations for reinforcement
• Prepare and issue plans for the geographic and capacity expansion of the network
• Determine appropriate spare equipment levels and manage inventory
• Specify and configure high speed Internet backbone routers, complex WAN switching, and SONET backbone networks
• Prepare technical proposals and cost estimates for responses to RFP's, RFI's and customer sales proposals
• Develop clear and thorough engineering, installation, and cutover plans
• Maintain plans for contingency operation and provide direct support  during such events
• Assist in the provisioning of circuits
• Prepare capital and operating budgets for network reinforcement
• Prepare and publish company technical standards
• Identify, evaluate, test and report on new equipment to further grow the business, reduce costs and/or resolve technological issues
• Special projects work

 

Candidate Qualifications

Required:

Job Knowledge
Required:

• Working knowledge of  Ethernet switching and routing platforms
• 4+ years of experience in a position with carrier network engineering roles and responsibilities, network design, implementation and operation
• 3+ years of working experience with LAN and WANs requiring familiarity with Ethernet standards such as, OSPF, BGP, ISIS, MPLS, GRE, and IEEE 802.x, TCP/IP and IP sub netting standards
• 3+ years operating experience with Level 2 switching, including 802.1D, 802.1w, 802.1s, 802.1p and 802.1q

Desired:

• Working knowledge of TDM technologies including multiplexing hierarchy, DACS, timing methodologies, including the provisioning and management of Cisco ONS MSPP products

Job Experience
Required:

• Experience troubleshooting SONET, IP and Ethernet networks, OSPF and BGP routing issues, and higher layer latency and fragmentation problems.
• Knowledge of ARIN practices.
• Experience in the provisioning and management of Cisco 7500/7200/4000/3600/2600/2500 series routers
• 3-5 years experience in a position with network engineering roles and responsibilities, network design, implementation and operation.

Required:

• Associates or Bachelor Degree (Engineering or Computer Science) or equivalent work experience

Desired:

• CCNA certification or greater
